I recently came across this beautifully made film that follows the artist, inventor, and designer Dominic Wilcox. In it we discover how he transforms ordinary things into some amazing creations.
This video and Wilcox's blog with be saved in my archives so that I can share his inventive ideas with my future art students. I will also be soon checking out his book, Variations on Normal very soon. So often children feel paralyzed with the idea of developing a concept and pushing it to completion. Wilcox demonstrates that this process of creation can be fun and challenging- and especially that sometimes the most simple inventions can have a huge impact!
I can already envision many fun units and lessons on 're-inventions' using his body of work as a resource. There is even opportunity to collaborate with different departments such as the sciences. His creativity, curiosity, and fearlessness is something I wish to inspire within my students. He has a great message to share and it is truly inspiring. Great work Dominic!
